Project Runway Season 1 Mini

While I wait for the next round of challenges from Fashion Fever, I decided to drop in on another group I am a member of and dabble in a few ideas.



So, DevArt Project Runway lists all of the past challenges from the 9 Seasons of the show. I have a few other pieces in my gallery done a long time ago based on challenges on PR but this time I'm really focusing on them by doing 3 piece mini collections for each season. Why 3? Well, not all of the challenges translate well to my drawings (i.e.: making clothing out of pet store items).

This is Season 1's mini collection.

Episode 5: Model Clients - "create a wedding dress for your model." My model was... me. I never got to wear a wedding dress when I got married, which is kind of a pity (I'm divorced now so it's not a total loss). So, I decided to make a dress that I would like to wear. The fashion of the 1920's is just one era that really appeals to me. So much of it is romanticized. I loved the fitted lace veils that they wore back then, too.
Episode 2: Vision - "Use plain white cotton jersey to build a garment that conveys "envy." My thought of envy of course circled around the color green but I also did a bit of digging and found that the sin is associated with the demon, Leviathan - the 'Hellmouth'. The oldest sea monster. The rippling flow of the dress was used to signify water, while the tight bound constriction of the waist leans towards the constriction it places on ones interaction with others.
Episode 6: Making a Splash - "Make a swimsuit that can double as evening wear." I've been obsessed with the colors in Buddhist temples lately, which is clearly displayed here and has nothing to do with the challenge. LOL The lower portion of the 'dress' is a rough silk wrap tipped by golden seashells to reflect the sand dollar necklace.
